Waynedale and Union Local Impress, Bears win 65-63

Wolfe gets Waynedale going, Troyer finishes the Jets

In what could be the best leadoff game in Classic in the Country history, both teams impressed, giving the solid crowd something to wake up to. After several runs and lead changes through the game, Waynedale prevailed 65-63.

Kelsey Wolfe was hot, she connected on six bombs behind the arc, four in the opening half and a few more to start the second half. She was instrumental in getting the Bears back on top after Union Local started the game 7-0. UL sophomore Reagan Vinskovich was as a good as advertised, the entire game. The post was 7-13 from the field and 11-13 from the line. She also added 11 rebounds and 3 assists.

Union Local, who only played five kids, closed the gap consistently. None of those comebacks were as big as closing the 3rd quarter up four after trailing by 11 earlier in the quarter. Waynedale trailed all of the final quarter, until the last minute. Brooklyn Troyer, who finished with 21 points, tied the game with a pair of free throws and the game wining steal that she took coast to coast. Troyer added 7 rebounds while playing through foul trouble the entire game.

Waynedale shot 8-8 from the foul line, Union Local was 18-22. Kelsey Wolfe finished with 18, all from behind the arc, and all in the first 18 minutes of the game. Laney Murphy added a solid performance with 10 points and 7 boards for Waynedale.

Union Local got a solid game from 2023 Torre Kildow with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Older sister Casey Kildow has 8 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the Jets. I was impressed with Union Local even in a loss. The fact that they played with no subs, and it didn’t seem to effect them late in the game, makes a weakness a little more manageable.
