Haubert’s Career Day Dooms Jackson

The senior scores 20, grabs 15 rebounds and dishes five dimes as Hoover tops Jackson 50-41.

(Game Preview)

All good things must come to an end. Last February the Vikings ended the Polar Bears 19 game win streak and season, tonight Hoover ended Jackson’s conference win streak that spanned parts of three seasons. The Bears did not go easy though.

Despite a sloppy start Jackson kept pace and kept the lead most of the first. Until Kate Haubert decided she’d take matters into her own hands. The senior sparked a 6-0 run where she connected on a couple baskets then had a helper to cap it. After a Jackson timeout Leena Patibandla knocked in a three to stop the bleeding, then added a backcourt steal and score for good measure. It looked like Jackson was going to take the momentum into the locker room until senior Emily Walker showed a brilliant shot fake then a dish to wide open Lauren Rose for the basket as time expired to draw it to a 23-23 tie.

To start the second the Polar Bears showed a 1-3-1 zone that momentarily worked as Patibandla snagged a steal and took it coast to coast. Jackson just couldn’t get running on all cylinders much of the second. Every time the Bears would get something brewing the Vikes would answer with a Haubert or Roshak bucket, or a sweet Walker dish.

Angela Roshak played fantastic tonight, on both ends of the floor. Combine some timely baskets, and being almost automatic from the foul line with her rebounding and shot defense and you have a very solid game. Roshak was the primary suspect in the Vikings holding Emma Dretke to a modest seven points, while scoring 14 on the other end.

Lauren Pallotta kept the Bears alive right before the 3rd quarter ended with a steal that she took to the tin. However the Bears just couldn’t make a move in the 4th as Hoover extended the lead to seven, then eight, eventually ten plus, before reaching the final of 50-41. Pallotta led Jackson with 15, showing her jump shot, step back and creativity to the rim. Leena Patibandla added 12, and some very slick defensive plays.
