Slow start for the Pups in this one. The Southview zone really slowed down the McKinley offense. The Cougars have a lot of length and they take up a lot of space, making it very tough to get a good look. McKinley is effective when they are in transition but didn’t get a ton of those opportunities in the first half.
Tailyn King got the Cougars started early with 7 quick points, Merrell added some hustle plays that resulted in a couple easy baskets. The McKinley guards got going late in the half with Terrell, Foster and Stokes getting some shots to fall. Sylvania however got a few late half run out lapups to extend the halftime lead to 32-19.
Bulldogs start quick in the second, getting a couple steals and layups, forcing Southview to call a timeout less than minute into the half. Southview ended the McKinley run after the Pups ran off 9 straight to start the half. McKinley forced the Cougars into turnovers on their first five 2nd half possessions. Nakyah Terrell had a huge 3rd, with ten points to cut the deficit to 5 before Southview pulled it back to double digits.
Terrell continued her outstanding half in the forth quarter, showing why she’s a premier guard in Northeast Ohio. She hit some from deep but also finished at the rim while being perfect from the foul line. She had a game high 25 points. Kyla Foster added 11 for the Pups. Lauren Perry led the Cougars with 16 while Merrell had 15 as Southview won 54-47. The Pups get back after it tomorrow against Eastlake North at 2:00 back in the Fieldhouse.
