2020-2021 Walsh Cavaliers – HC Kate Bruce

Walsh boss lady Kate Bruce has been getting it done on the court for several years now. Whether it’s between the lines or on the sideline, she’s always left her mark.

Coach Bruce is the all time leading scorer at Florida Gulf Coast, despite only playing there two years. She led them to a 63-3 record in those two years, while having the 2nd highest FG% in the country and leading them to the D2 National Championship game. Her impact was surely felt as the Eagles transitioned to D1 shortly after and have made some noise soon the national level with not only NCAA appearances, but some successful trips to The Big Dance.

As an assistant at Ohio University she helped lead the Bobcats to multiple MAC Championships and a NCAA appearance of their own.

Then on to Walsh, despite taking the job as pre-season was just about to start in 2016 the Cavaliers finished with a winning record, and have improved every year since, before winning a program record 28 games last year. The Cavs accomplishments in this four year stretch includes their first GMAC Championship, first GMAC undefeated season, first NCAA appearance, among others.

In the midst of last years run, the reigning GMAC champs earned Walsh’s first ever NCAA Top 25 ranking, ultimately finishing #7 in the country before COVID ended their 28-2 and title hopes before the tournament even started.

This year? Yes, the expectations are high, many consider them the team to beat in the entire midwest, some consider them a top team in the country. With all the craziness of this offseason, few are as confident as they would have otherwise been, but the Walsh Cavaliers will be exciting to watch as they chase greatness this year.
