Classic in the Country 2013 – Day 1

DAY 1

Orrville 81

Reedsville Eastern 48

Co-Players of the Game:

Hannah Plybon – 31 pts, 9 rebs, 5 asts

Maggie Devault – 18 pts, 9 rebs, 9 asts

(O) Brianne Adcock – 7 pts, 8 rebs

(RE) Jenna Burdette – 16 pts, 6 asts

(RE) Eric Swatzel – 20 pts, 8 rebs

Hannah Plybon and Maggie Devault showed up when the lights were shining their brightest, accounting for 60% of their teams points, 35% of the rebounds and 64% of the assists. It’s apparent that Maggie and Hannah have this Red Riders team focused on one thing, getting to Columbus! After a district final loss to Smithville last year Orrville looks like they have amped it up for one last run. They’re only two losses this year were very competitive to the D2 favorite West Holmes. Make no mistake about it this is a team effort, with 9 girls getting int he scoring column, including Brianne Adcock’s 7 pts and 8 rebounds. Defensively Orrville pressured Dayton commit Jenna Burdette into a terrible day shooting just 6 for 23 and 1 of 11 from behind the arc. The possible Orrville-Smithville matchup in the districts will be a must see that’s for sure!

The Hiland Hawks weren’t very good hosts for the Damascus team from Maryland. Both teams kind of started slow but Hiland heated up sooner and hotter than Damascus did. After Damascus shot 19% in the first half it had a 9 point hole it had to climb out of and just couldn’t. Despite having a distinct height disadvantage the Hawks team rebounded its way to a +8 advantage on the boards. Regina Hochstetler finished with 24 points going 4-4 from the line, 4-8 behind the arc and 8-12 from the field.
